Ethical Principles

The Ethiopian Journal of Public Health and Nutrition (EJPHN) adheres to internationally recognized ethical standards in scholarly publishing. These principles guide authors, reviewers, and editors to ensure integrity, transparency, and accountability in all stages of the publication process.

Research Integrity Authors must ensure that all research submitted to the journal is conducted responsibly and ethically. Data should be collected and analyzed honestly, without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation. Results must be reported accurately, and limitations should be acknowledged.

Human and Animal Subjects Studies involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and other relevant ethical guidelines. Authors are required to obtain approval from an institutional review board or ethics committee and must state this clearly in their manuscript. Informed consent must be obtained from all participants. Research involving animals must follow internationally accepted standards for animal welfare and care.

Authorship and Contributions Authorship should be based on substantial intellectual contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All listed authors must approve the final manuscript and agree to be accountable for its content. Contributions that do not meet authorship criteria should be acknowledged separately.

Conflict of Interest Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, personal, or professional relationships that could influence their work. Transparency in declaring conflicts of interest helps maintain trust in the journal’s publications.

Plagiarism and Originality Manuscripts must represent original work. Plagiarism, duplicate publication, or submission of the same manuscript to multiple journals is strictly prohibited. EJPHN employs plagiarism detection tools to verify originality.

Peer Review Ethics Reviewers are expected to provide objective, constructive, and respectful feedback. They must maintain confidentiality, avoid using unpublished data for personal advantage, and declare any conflicts of interest. Editors ensure that the peer review process is fair, unbiased, and timely.

Corrections and Retractions If errors are identified after publication, authors are encouraged to notify the editorial office promptly. Minor errors may be corrected through errata, while serious issues such as misconduct or invalid data may result in retraction. Retractions are clearly marked and explained to preserve transparency.

Data Sharing and Transparency Authors are encouraged to make their data available for verification and replication, in line with open science practices. Where possible, datasets should be deposited in recognized repositories and referenced in the manuscript.

Respect and Responsibility All parties involved in the publication process must act with respect, professionalism, and responsibility. The journal promotes inclusivity, fairness, and the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of public health and nutrition.
